John Farmer, Jr.

John J. Farmer (born 24 June 1957, Jersey City, New Jersey) is an American politician. He was from 1999 to 2002 Minister of Justice ( Attorney General ) and on 8 January 2002 for 90 minutes Governor of the State of New Jersey.

Career

John Farmer studied until 1979 at Georgetown University, among others, Jura. After that, he was at Judge Alan B. Handler, then a member of the Supreme Court of New Jersey, employed. From 1988 to 1990 he was an employee of a law firm in Morristown. Between 1990 and 1994 he was Deputy Attorney General for the District of New Jersey. Since 1997, Farmer was a member of the senior staff of Governor Christine Todd Whitman. On January 15, 1999, he was appointed by the Governor to the new Attorney General of New Jersey. This position is equivalent to that of a Minister of Justice. Following his confirmation by the state Senate farmers could take up his new post on June 3 of that year. This office he held until 2002 under Governor Donald DiFrancesco.

On 8 January 2002 ended the tenure of DiFrancesco, who was both governor and Senate president. Since there was no lieutenant governor in New Jersey, according to the state constitution had to take over the office of governor as long as the Minister of Justice until the new Senate president was sworn. After about 90 minutes, John Bennett was established as the new President of the Senate. This then also took over the governorship. Soon after, Farmers ran out time as Minister of Justice. He later became a consultant to the Commission that investigated the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001. Today Farmer has worked as a partner in a law firm. He also teaches at Rutgers University law.
