John Francis Doerfler

Life

John Doerfler studied in Saint Paul and at the Pontifical North American College in Rome. On 13 July 1991 he was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Green Bay. He served as parochial vicar in Littele Chute in Appleton and at the Cathedral of Green Bay. In 1997 he graduated from the Catholic University of America, a licentiate in canon law. At the Pontifical Institute " John Paul II " for Studies on Marriage and Family in Washington, DC he earned a licentiate in moral theology in 1999 and received his doctorate in 2007 for Doctor Theologiae.

In the Diocese of Green Bay, he worked among other things as marriage defender of the bond and diocesan judges as well as vice-chancellor of the diocese. Since 2005 he was Vicar General.

Pope Francis appointed him on 17 December 2013 Bishop of Marquette.
