John Furia, Jr.

John Joseph Furia, Jr. ( born August 16, 1929 in New York City, New York, † May 8, 2009 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American screenwriter and television producer.

Life

Furia initially worked in New York as a singer in entertainment bands. Beginning of the 1960s he moved to California and wrote screenplays for television series such as Dr Kildare, Bonanza and The Twilight Zone. In 1966 he wrote the screenplay for the feature film nominated for an Oscar Dominique - The Singing Nun with Debbie Reynolds in the lead role. Later, he also worked as a producer, first for series such as Kung Fu, from the mid-1970s he also produced television movies, including Lost and damned on the novel by Ernest Hemingway.

From 1973 to 1975 he was President of the Writers Guild of America West, where he was also active on the Board. For his achievements, he was honored by the WGA with various awards. He has worked as a consultant at the National Endowment for the Humanities, and from 1996 professor of the University of Southern California.
