John G. Rowland

John Grosvenor Rowland ( born May 24, 1957 in Waterbury, Connecticut ) is an American politician ( Republican). He was three times Governor of the State of Connecticut. Because of corruption allegations, he joined in 2004 by his office. 2005 Rowland was sentenced to a year's imprisonment.

Early years and political rise

Rowland attended until 1975, the Holy Cross High School in Waterbury. In 1979 he completed a course of study at Villanova University in Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts. Rowland worked as an insurance agent.

1981 Rowlands began political career. At first he was a deputy in the House of Representatives from Connecticut for two terms from 1981 to 1985, and thereafter for three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1985 to 1991.

Governor of Connecticut

Rowland won the November 1994 election as Governor of Connecticut and was the youngest-ever governor of Connecticut. In 1998 he was re-elected for a second and 2002 for a third term. Characteristic of his policy were tax cuts and welfare cuts.

Criminal proceedings

In 2003, the House of Representatives from Connecticut and law enforcement investigations on corruption allegations against Rowland. In June 2004, Rowland resigned from office and was sentenced in March 2005 for fraud and tax evasion to imprisonment of one year and a suspended sentence of three years. In February 2006, he was released early from prison.

Others

Since early 2008, Rowland works as an agent for economic development of the city council of his hometown of Waterbury.

Rowland and his wife Patricia have five children together.
