John George Vlazny

John George Vlazny ( born February 22, 1937 in Chicago) is an American clergyman and Emeritus Archbishop of Portland in Oregon.

Life

John George Vlazny received on 20 December 1961, the ordained priest for the Archdiocese of Chicago.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 18 October 1983, Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago and Titular Bishop of Stagnum.

He received his episcopal consecration of the Archbishop of Chicago, Joseph Louis Cardinal Bernardin, on 13 December of the same year; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops in Chicago Nevin William Hayes O. Carm and Alfred Leo Abramowicz.

On 19 May 1987 he was appointed bishop of Winona, and introduced into the office on July 29th of the same year. On October 28, 1997, he was appointed Archbishop of Portland in Oregon and introduced into the office on 19 December of the same year.
