John J. O'Connor (journalist)

John J. O'Connor (* July 10, 1933 in Bronx, New York City; † November 13, 2009 in Manhattan, New York City ) was an American journalist and film critic.

Life

John J. O'Connor was one of four sons of two Irish immigrants James O'Connor and Hannah Foley, both from County Kerry to arise. He studied at the City College of New York and Yale University. His journalistic career began in 1959 at The Wall Street Journal, where he theater and dance critic later. From 1971 he worked for the New York Times, where he mainly wrote film reviews until 1997.

Over 47 years he lived O'Connor along with his life partner Seymour Barofsky. Both adopted the early 1980s, a child who at the age of seven years, died of a malignant lymphoma later. He died on 13 November 2009 at the age of 76 years, just four weeks after the diagnosis of lung cancer in this same disease.
