John Jefferys (clockmaker)

John Jefferys (* 1701, † 1754) was an English clockmaker from London.

His parents, John and Jane Jefferys, lived in a house in the village called Darby Midgham in Berkshire County. His father was a wool merchant. Maternal His grandparents were William and Bridgett Yeats. He had at least five brothers and one sister. Although his father was a Quaker, he was baptized on 18 March 1701. 1723 bequeathed to a sister of his grandmother, Jane Tull, his parents' house.

On November 4, 1717, he began a watchmaking apprenticeship with Edward Jagger at Well Close Square in Stepney, London. After nine years of teaching, he was on January 26, 1726 Member of the Clockmakers Company of London and remained so until 1735. 1735, he took Larcum Kendall as an apprentice. Around 1753, he built a pocket for the watchmaker John Harrison. After his death, Kendall took over his workshop.
