John John Florence

John John ( JJ ) Florence (born 18 October 1992 in Honolulu, Hawaii) is an American junior surfers.

Life

Florence, the eldest of three brothers, grew up in Haleiwa. The proximity to the famous surf spot " Banzai Pipeline " led him at an early age for surfing. At age five he first stood alone on the surfboard. With his mother Alexandra, who also surfs, and his two younger brothers, he lives in a house right on the surf beach of Haleiwa.

Career

In the years 2003 to 2005 he won several amateur accolades. In the winter of 2005, he first came to attention when he participated as the youngest surfer on the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing Competition in Hawaii. The eleven-time world surfing champion Kelly Slater said of Florence: "He will at some point the waves on the North Shore know better than any surfer before." In a competition in Mexico in 2011, he broke his ankle. On 2 December 2011, he became the youngest surfer to date the Vans World Cup of Surfing. Its official sponsor O'Neill, Inc. 2011 he took the first time on the ASP World Tour in part, the World Surfing Championship. In the currently ongoing World Cup 2012, he is, by his victory at the Billabong Rio Pro competition in May 2012 in Rio de Janeiro until now ranked 5th He also snowboarding and skateboarding and won some competitions there.
