John Kerin

John Charles Kerin (* November 21, 1937 in Bowral, New South Wales) is an Australian politician.

Biography

Kerin was after studying at the University of New England, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in 1967, first as an economist at the Bureau of Agriculture and Resource Economics ( ABARE ) operates.

He began his federal political career in December 1972 with the election of the Members of the Australian House of Representatives, where he represented the interests of the Australian Labor Party (ALP ) for the constituency of Macarthur. In December 1975, he lost his parliamentary seat after the ALP government under Prime Minister Gough Whitlam was dismissed by the Governor General John Kerr Robert during the constitutional crisis of the Office. In 1977, he earned a postgraduate degree also a Bachelor of Economics ( B.Econ. ) At the Australian National University in Canberra.

September 1978 he succeeded in re-entry into the Federal Parliament after he was elected in the constituency Werriwa in New South Wales to the deputies and the mandate held until 1993. In the following years he became a supporter of the later Prime Minister Bob Hawke, who appointed him to its election in March 1983 to the Minister for Primary Industries. After Hawkes re-election in June 1987, he was Minister of Energy and then in 1991 for some time Minister of Transport and Communications.

Because of its practical and theoretical knowledge, he was logical, albeit temporary unexpectedly in June 1991 Chancellor of the Exchequer, after the previous incumbent Paul Keating resigned from this office. Reason for Keating's resignation was the unsuccessful attempt by the replacement of Prime Minister Hawke. Kerin led it to initiate a change in fiscal policy in particular the prime rate, which was less economic, but rather political party to bring peace camp founded. In the coming months, this involved the worst recession in Australia since the early 1930s. When the Hawke government finally achieved their worst value in the opinion polls on December 6, 1991 since taking office in 1983, it came to the dismissal of Kerin as Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Fourteen days later, then took over but Keating as prime minister and appointed him Minister for Trade and Overseas Development in the government. This office he held until his retirement from Parliament in December 1993.

After his retirement from political life, he has held several senior positions in the Australian Meat and Food Association ( Australian Food and Livestock Corporation ) and other organizations such as the Department of Tropical Savannas.

For his political services in 2001 he was awarded the Order of Australia.
