John M. Holley

John Milton Holley ( born November 10, 1802 in Salisbury, Connecticut, † March 8, 1848 in Jacksonville, Florida) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1847 and 1848 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Milton Holley graduated in 1822 at Yale College. He studied law. After receiving his license to practice law, he began in 1825 in Black Rock in Cayuga County to practice. He moved in 1826 to Lyons. There he continued his activities as a lawyer. Between 1838 and 1841 he sat in the New York State Assembly. He was 1842-1845 district attorney in Wayne County. Politically he belonged to the Whig party.

In 1844, he ran unsuccessfully for the 29th Congress. In the congressional elections of 1846 for the 30th Congress, he was in the 27th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John De Mott on March 4, 1847. He died before the end of his term on March 8, 1848 in Jacksonville. His body was then buried in the Rural Cemetery in Lyons.
