John Moffet (politician)

John Moffet ( born April 5, 1831 in County Antrim, United Kingdom, † June 19, 1884 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. In 1869 he represented for a month the state of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Even in his youth, John Moffet came with his parents from his native Northern Ireland to Philadelphia, where he attended the public schools. After a subsequent medical studies at the University of Pennsylvania and his medical license, he began in 1853 to work in this profession. He also worked as a pharmacist. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1868 Moffet was the third electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Republican Leonard Myers took on 4 March 1869 that he had beaten in the election. This laid but against the outcome of the election opposition a. As this was met, Moffet had to cede his position to Myers on April 9 of the same year.

After the end of his short time in the U.S. House of Representatives John Moffet took his previous jobs as doctors and pharmacists in again. He died on 19 June 1884 in Philadelphia.
