John Mortimer Smith

John Mortimer Fourette Smith ( born June 23, 1935 in Orange ) is Bishop Emeritus of Trenton.

Life

John Mortimer Fourette Smith received on 27 May 1961, ordained priest for the Archdiocese of Newark.

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop on November 20, 1987 in Newark and Titular Bishop of Tres Tabernae. The Archbishop of Newark, Theodore Edgar McCarrick, donated to him on 25 January of the next year, the episcopal ordination; Peter Leo Gerety were co-consecrators, Archbishop Emeritus of Newark, and Walter William Curtis, Bishop of Bridgeport.

On 25 June 1991 he was appointed Bishop of Pensacola - Tallahassee. On November 21, 1995, he was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Trenton. Following the resignation of John Charles Reiss he followed him on 30 June 1997 by the Bishop of Trenton. On 1 December 2010, Pope Benedict XVI. its age-related resignation.
