John of Dukla

John of Dukla (Polish: Jan of Dukli, * 1414 in Dukla, Poland, † September 29, 1484 in Lviv, then Poland, now Ukraine) was a Polish religious and priests. He is a saint in the Catholic Church and is revered above all in Poland.

John was a member of the Franciscan Order in 1437 and worked as a director of several religious convents in Krosno and Lviv. In 1463 he finally joined the ascetic religious branch of the St. Bernard. John worked as a well known and popular preacher and spiritual director in the nation. He also allegedly had the gift of healing the sick. In his last years, John went blind. His remains rest today in Dukla. John is still one of the most known and respected men of the Church in Poland. There, July 8th is his memorial day, generally it is also the 29 September.

John of Dukla was in 1735 by Pope Clement XII. beatified and canonized in 1997 by Pope John Paul II.
