John Patterson (director)

John Tiffin Patterson ( born April 4, 1940 in Cooperstown, New York, † 27 February 2005 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American film director.

Life

Patterson was born in Cooperstown, New York.

John Patterson joined the United States Air Force after he had studied a few semesters at Williams College. He graduated from the University at Buffalo a degree and a master's degree at Stanford University in 1970. He was in a class with the inventor of the Sopranos David Chase. Since the late 1970s he worked as a television director, with the emphasis on series. From 1988 to 1995, he staged mainly movies.

He turned from 1999 to 2004 thirteen episodes of the television series The Sopranos and was nominated for an Emmy in 2002 and 2003. He won the Directors Guild of America in 2002. He was married to Casey Kelley, but divorced later. They had two children together. Patterson died in Los Angeles from prostate cancer at the age of 64

The episode of the Sopranos # 77 was dedicated to him.
