John Quinn (politician)

John Quinn (Irish Seán Ó Cuinn, born August 9, 1839 County Tipperary, Ireland, † February 23, 1903 in New York City ) was an American politician. Between 1889 and 1891 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Quinn was born during the Victorian era in County Tipperary. He attended the College in Clonmel Tipperary. In 1866 he immigrated to the United States and settled in New York City. There he went to real estate and Baugeschäften. He was president of the West Side Electric Light & Power Company and a founder and director of the Homestead Bank of New York. In 1882 he sat in the New York State Assembly. Then he was 1885-1887 Member of the Board of Aldermen. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. He took in the years 1884 and 1888 in part as a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions.

In the congressional elections of 1888 for the 51st Congress Quinn was in the eleventh electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Truman A. Merriman on March 4, 1889. He retired after March 3, 1891 from the Congress.

On February 23, 1903, he died in New York City and was buried in Calvary Cemetery in Long Iceland City.
