John Romita, Sr.

John Romita senior ( born January 24, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York), is an influential and well-known artist of American comics. He is the father of comic book artist John Romita Jr..

His first comic was a romantic story for female readers and published in 1949 by Verlag Eastern Colour. 1950 Romita began working for Marvel and recorded here for different series. The first contact with superheroes he received in 1954 with the new edition of Captain America. In 1957 he left Marvel to re- draw stories for girls in DC. DC created this series in 1965 and Romita returned to Marvel and was responsible for series like Daredevil, Hulk and Dr. Strange.

His breakthrough came when he succeeded in 1966 by Steve Ditko as artist of Spider-Man took. With Stan Lee as an author he created through his clear style of drawing very successful comics. 1972 Romita art director was at Marvel. The success of Spiderman led to the mid-1970s, even comic strips were published. The first episodes recorded Romita and his son John, though he had given up the drawings for the series in 1971.

In 2002 he received the Will Eisner Award for his oeuvre.
