John Slade (field hockey)

John H. Slade, originally: Hans Schlesinger, (* May 30, 1908 in Frankfurt am Main, † 11 September 2005) was a German-born, American hockey players and Wall Street broker.

Life

John Slade was born as "John Schlesinger " in Frankfurt am Main. In his youth he played hockey at SC 1880 Frankfurt where he was excluded as a Jew in 1936. That's why he could not attend the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. He then emigrated to New York.

He started there as a messenger boy at " Bear Stearns ", which, in 1936, a small brokerage firm with 50 employees was back then. Later he returned to Germany as a U.S. soldier. In 1948, he played in the hockey team of Americans at the Olympic Games in London.
