John Tomlinson, Baron Tomlinson

John Edward Tomlinson, Baron Tomlinson ( born August 1, 1939 in London) was a British politician ( Labour Party ) and member of the House of Commons and the European Parliament. He is currently a peer member of the Upper House.

Education and work

Tomlinson attended the Westminster City School and the Co-operative College in Loughborough. Later he studied health management at Brunel University in 1982 and earned his MA at the University of Warwick.

In the years 1968 to 1970, he worked in a managerial position for the union " Amalgamated Union of Engineering Workers ."

After being voted out of the House in 1979, he took a teaching position at the " Solihull College of Technology " true.

In 1998 he was ennobled as Baron Tomlinson of Walsall. Walsall is in West Midlands County.

Policy

Between 1974 and 1979 he was a deputy in the lower house in the constituency of Meriden. During his tenure, he also held a number of government offices. So he was

  • Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS ) of Prime Minister Harold Wilson ( 1975-76 );
  • Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at Ministry of Foreign Affairs ( 1976-79 );
  • Parliamentary Secretary, Department for International Development ( 1977-79 )

From 1984 to 1999 he was Member of Parliament for the constituency of Birmingham West.
