John Watson (philosopher)

John Watson ( * February 25, 1847; † January 27, 1939 in Kingston, Ontario) was a representative of the British idealism, who worked as a professor of moral philosophy at Queen 's University in Kingston, Canada.

But Watson studied theology in 1866 at the University of Glasgow. His teacher was Edward Caird. On the recommendation of Caird Watson got in 1872 the chair of logic, metaphysics and ethics in Kingston. From 1889 to 1924 he was Professor of Moral Philosophy.

Watson has argued for the admission of women to the study. He is one of the absolute idealists and ties in his philosophy of Plato, Kant, and Hegel.
