John Wesley Harding is a published in December 1967 studio album by the American songwriter Bob Dylan. Following a highly rock music phase and a rest after a motorcycle accident, Dylan showed here again as a folk musician.

The lyrics on the album are clearly influenced by the Bible. The song " All Along The Watchtower" was known by the version of Jimi Hendrix going on. Even Dylan plays it at concerts often in this version.

All songs on the album are set to music poems. Dylan had originally written without musical accompaniment. For this reason, none of the pieces has a chorus.

The album's title refers to the gunslingers, John Wesley Hardin. From the title " The Ballad of Frankie Lee and Judas Priest" the heavy metal band Judas Priest borrowed its name.
