John Wilson (South Carolina)

John Wilson (* August 11, 1773 in Pelzer, Anderson County, South Carolina; † August 13, 1828 at Golden Grove, South Carolina ) was an American politician. Between 1821 and 1827 he represented the state of South Carolina in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Wilson attended the public schools of his home. He then worked near Golden Grove in Anderson County in agriculture. He also operated a ferry across the Saluda River. At the same time he began a political career. Between 1812 and 1817 he was a member of the House of Representatives of South Carolina.

In the congressional elections of 1820 Wilson was a candidate of the Democratic-Republican Party in the seventh constituency of South Carolina in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected. There he met on March 4, 1821 the successor of Elias Earle. This district he represented until March 3, 1823. During the next two legislative sessions until 3 March 1827 he represented the sixth constituency as the successor of George McDuffie in Congress.

In 1826 he was defeated Warren R. Davis. After Wilson retired from politics. He died on August 13, 1828 at his estate at Golden Grove. There he was also buried.
