John Wood (English actor)

John Wood, CBE ( born January 1, 1930 in Derbyshire, England; † 6 August 2011) was a British actor.

Life and achievements

Wood studied law at Jesus College, Oxford, during which time he discovered his interest in the spectacle. Later he worked at the Old Vic Theatre, where he performed under other opposite Richard Burton, and the Royal Court.

His first film role was played by Wood in the film drama A Stolen Face of the Year 1952. Rendezvous In the comedy with a corpse (1978 ), he joined one of the major roles on next Farrah Fawcett and Jeff Bridges. For his role of Dr. Stephen Falken in the sci-fi thriller WarGames - War Games ( 1983) he was nominated in 1984 for the Saturn Award. In the comedy Jumpin 'Jack Flash, he appeared alongside Whoopi Goldberg, in addition to heartburn Meryl Streep and Jack Nicholson. In the remake of Sabrina (1995 ), he played the role of Sabrina's father. For his role in the movie Chocolat - A small bite is enough (2000) he was nominated for the 2001 Screen Actors Guild Award.

Wood won the 1976 Tony Award for his role in the play Travesties, in the years 1968 and 1975 he was nominated for the same price. In 1991 he was awarded the London Evening Standard Theatre Award, 1998, he was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award.

Wood married twice and had four children.
