Johnny Bayersdorffer

Johnny Bayer Dorffer ( born September 4, 1899 in New Orleans, † November 14, 1969 ) was an American musician (cornet, trumpet, tenor saxophone) and band leader of the Dixieland jazz.

Life and work

Johnny Bayer Dorffer worked in the 1920s in a number of local bands in New Orleans, eventually in other cities, including Chicago. With its formations Jazzola Ltd.. Band and Jazzola Novelty Orchestra, he performed during his high school years; were among the band members, inter alia, Nappy Lamare, Chink Martin, Leo Adde, Ray Bauduc and trombonist / bassist Tom Brown. With the latter Bayersdorfer wrote the song I Wonder Where My Easy Rider's Ridin ' Now?. From the autumn of 1924 he became a full time musician, moved to Chicago and also appeared in Indianapolis and Los Angeles, before he returned to New Orleans. In the 1920s he recorded for Okeh Records, and he also played in this time with Happy Schilling and Tony Parenti.

From the end of the decade, Bayer Dorffer was again active in Chicago, also played in New York, including with violinist Billy Lustig and pianist Lee Shore. In 1940 he was seriously injured in a traffic accident and had his career interrupted until he appeared again in the early 1950s, including with engagements at the Club Flamingo and performances in New Orleans.
