Johnny Hates Jazz was founded in 1986 by Clark Datchler, Calvin Hayes and Mike Nocito. Throughout their appearance and musical style - neat hairstyles, suit and tie, and the gentle, smooth pop songs - reminds the band of Spandau Ballet. They can also be described as somewhat belated representative of the New Romantic.

Calvin Hayes left the band in late 2010 and wrote among other things, a book about his father who died in 2003 Mickie Most, who was active in the 1980s as a producer for Johnny Hates Jazz. In October 2010, Johnny Hates Jazz played (still with Calvin Hayes ) in Singapore at an open- air concert.
