Jonas Svensson (tennis)

Jonas Svensson ( born October 21, 1966 in Gothenburg ) is a former Swedish tennis player.

Life

Svensson reached in 1983 at the Junior Wimbledon Championships competition of the semi-finals and two years later became a professional. He was in his pro career in the ATP World Tour win five individual tournaments as well as a doubles tournament and reached rank 10 in 1991 with his highest placing in the ATP world rankings.

In 1986 he won the Grand Prix in Cologne Köln his first individual title. In the two following years he won the BA Tennis Trophy in Vienna, and the Lorraine Open in Metz. In 1990 he won the Grand Prix de Tennis de Toulouse in Toulouse, his last title he won at the Copenhagen Open against his compatriot Anders Järryd. Svensson reached twice as unseeded players the semifinals of the French Open. In 1988, he was defeated by Henri Leconte, having previously had Ivan Lendl defeated. Two years later he defeated Leconte in the quarter-finals and was defeated in the last four against Andre Agassi.

In doubles, he won in 1987 at the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships in Memphis on the side of Anders Järryd, two years before he got together with Jaroslav Navratil in the finals of the tournament hall of Nancy.

Svensson played between 1989 and 1991 nine individual lots for the Swedish Davis Cup team, his record was about 7-2. For the Swedish team at that time were Stefan Edberg, Mats Wilander Jan Gunnarsson and Anders Järryd. With his victories against Goran Ivanisevic and Goran Prpić in the semi-final against Yugoslavia, he contributed significantly to the collection in the Davis Cup final in 1989, which was lost against Germany. In the final, however, he did not play.

Jonas Svensson was performed until the mid- 1980s was still under Jonas B. Svensson in the Tennis Statistics, as a country man named Jonas A. Svensson as well as a professional tennis traveled the world.
