Jonathan Ward (politician)

Jonathan Ward ( born September 21, 1768 in Eastchester, New York, † September 28, 1842 ) was an American politician. Between 1815 and 1817 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Jonathan Ward grew up during the British colonial period and received a limited education. In 1791 he worked as an assessor in Eastchester. Between 1802 and 1806 he was sheriff in Westchester County. Then he sat in 1807 in the Senate from New York. Two years later he was a member of the Council of Appointment. Politically, he was a member of the founded by Thomas Jefferson Democratic- Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1814 Ward was the third electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Peter Denoyelles on March 4, 1815. Since he gave up for reelection in 1816, he retired after the March 3, 1817 out of the Congress. Then he took in 1821 at the Constitutional Convention of New York. Between 1828 and 1840 he was Guardianship and estate Richter ( surrogate ) in Westchester County. He died on 28 September 1842 in Eastchester.
