Features

The moths reach a forewing length 11.9 to 12.2 mm in males and from 11.0 to 11.2 mm in females. Head, thorax and abdomen shining green. Head and thorax are hairy. The sensor shimmering bluish green and consist of 40 to 42 segments. The front wing tops shimmer dark green, the hind wings are dark gray and opaque. The underwings are dark gray and not filled with shiny scales.

In the males, the aedeagus has a rounded and not pointed cornutus. Both praise the everted vesica are equal. The 8th Abdominalsternit extends to the posterior edge of the segment.

The ostium of the female are broad, funnel-shaped antrum has a smooth surface and proximal strongly sclerotized. Distally it is serrated, half is sclerotized and bulging the other half is translucent. The distal portion of the ductus bursae is curved, bent and longer than Jordanita carolae, Jordanita algirica and Jordanita minutissima. The corpus bursae is ovoid.

The egg is previously undescribed.

The caterpillar is gray-brown on the sides and purple tinted brown. The lateroventrale area and belly are whitish yellow. The brownish yellow back warts touch in the center back and form large oval spots that are occupied in the middle with black-brown bristles. Ventrad ( the belly side ) to the back warts runs a cream line. The subdorsal and lateral lying warts are reddish brown, which are located anteriorly short and black brown.

The doll is about eight to nine millimeters long and light reddish brown. The cocoon is blunted spindle-shaped, silk white and covered with loosely spun silk and earth.

Similar Species

In the Middle Atlas in Morocco J. rungsi comes before sympatric with Jordanita algirica. The similar kind is about the same size, but has less pointed wings and not so intense green shimmer. The hind wings are translucent, head and thorax are less hairy. The cornutus of the vesica is longer and has a sharp distal tip. Both praise the everted vesica are not the same size. The 8th Abdominalsternit not enough to the rear end of the segment. The females can be distinguished only genitalmorphologisch.

Dissemination

Jordanita rungsi occurs in the central areas of the Middle Atlas in Morocco. The species colonized dry steppe habitats at altitudes from 1500 to 2400 meters above sea level and is bound to localities with abundant growth of fodder plant.

Biology

The caterpillars live on the Färberdistelart Cartamus calvus. Full-grown caterpillars burrow at the point in the stem tip into it, at the spring the flower stems. The rear part of the bead looks out of the mine. As a result of the track dried up the last piece of self-indulgence of the shoot. The caterpillars pupate in a cocoon in the soil. The moths fly from late June to July.
