Jörg Pfeifer

Jörg Pfeifer ( born March 19, 1952 in Merseburg, Saxony -Anhalt ) is a German athlete who - was successful in the 1970s in the 200 -meter run as well as a 4-by- 100-meter relay team - starting for the GDR. His greatest achievement is the silver medal at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal with the 4 x 100 - meter relay of the GDR ( 38.66 s, together with Manfred Kokot, Alexander Thieme and Klaus -Dieter Kurrat ), for which he the Patriotic Merit was awarded in bronze.

At the European Championships in 1971, he won the bronze medal in the 200 -meter run. He ran on this route two DDR records ( 20.5 s on June 27, 1971 in Leipzig, and 20.4 s on 22 August 1971 in Berlin) and a 1976 indoor world record ( 21.10 s on January 11, 1976 ).

Jörg Pfeifer competed for the SC Chemie Halle and trained with Dietmar Falgowski. In his playing days, he was 1.77 m tall and weighed 68 kg. He initially trained as a primary level teachers and was later coach of SV Dynamo Halle- Neustadt.
