Jorge Burruchaga

Jorge Luis Burruchaga ( born October 9, 1962 in Gualeguay, Entre Rios Province ) is a former Argentine football player and coach. The Football World Cup 1986 played at club level, primarily for the CA Independiente, as well as in France for FC Nantes FC Valenciennes.

Career

Association

El Burro ( " donkey " ) began his career at Arsenal de Sarandi Bonarenser suburban club. The attacking midfielder, who occasionally played outside right, in 1982 came to CA Independiente, where he in 1983 became the Argentine national team. In 1985 he went to Europe and spent seven years in France with FC Nantes. In 1992 he moved to FC Nantes of Valenciennes, where he was involved in a match-fixing scandal after a match against Olympique Marseille. This led in 1994 to a two -year ban in France. Then he moved back to Argentina in 1995, where he played for three years at his old club Independiente.

National

Burruchaga played for the first time in 1983 for Argentina. At the Copa America in 1983, he was among other players scorer of the tournament. Career highlight was the World Cup in Mexico in 1986, where he became world champion with Argentina and scored two goals. In the final against Germany, he scored after Germany had caught a 0:2 behind and to tilt the game threatened after a pass from Diego Maradona the decisive third goal for the 3-2 win and was next to Maradona for the great heroes of the tournament. Also at the Football World Cup 1990, he belonged to the tribe of Argentines. He took part in every game and scored in the first round once in the 2-0 victory against the Soviet Union. In the World Cup final Burruchaga was replaced in the 53rd minute. The German national team succeeded in revenge for the defeat of 1986 and won 1-0. Overall, he played 1983-1990 59 times for Argentina, scoring 13 goals.

Coach

After ending his playing career was Burruchaga coach. Initially he worked at Bonarenser second division CSD Defensa y Justicia and at CA Los Andes. From 2002 to 2005 he coached Arsenal de Sarandi, 2006-2007 Independiente. In 2008 he was coach at Banfield, the following year he again took over the Premier League rivals Arsenal de Sarandi. Since 2011 he has been serving the Paraguayan club Libertad.

Private

Burruchaga married Fabiola Paula, a daughter of Nestor " Pipo " Rossi, who was himself an outstanding player of the 1940s and 1950s and later had success as a coach.
