Jorge José Emiliano dos Santos

Jorge José Emiliano dos Santos ( born March 19, 1954 in Rio de Janeiro, † February 21, 1995 ibid ) called Margarida, was a Brazilian football referee.

Began dos Santos as a referee at the beach football between amateur clubs on the beach in Rio de Janeiro, where life is not always squeamish. There he got his nickname Margarida ( Margarete or daisies ). In 1988 he was whistling in the highest league, his debut was at the game Flamengo Rio de Janeiro against Volta Redonda FC at the Estádio da Gávea in Rio. In the same year he also had his media coming out and was the first openly gay top referee Brazil. The directors of CR Vasco da Gama did not really know how to handle it, but the press praised his performance. In 1989, it came in the season opener for the 6th Brazilian Frauenfußballcup the Estádio Caio Martins to an incident: After he had insulted a player, he lost his temper and struck her a blow. There was a commotion and he was forced against the angry players to flee. A few days later he apologized to the player with a flower.

In addition to his performance, he was by his theatrical and dance style with which he moved on the field, a kind of star. After a team had scored a goal, he danced backward to the center circle and if a player committed a foul he encountered small delighted cries. The players respected him. He used to say to them, I may be a pansy ( gay ) away from the football field, but here I am a macho.

On 21 February 1995 dos Santos died of complications from AIDS.

Emiliano Dos Santos is one of several models from which the referee Clésio Moreira dos Santos created a fictional character, who also took his nickname Margarida. This was later pink camisole and can be seen in a popular Youtube video.
