José Antonio López Guerrero

José Antonio López Guerrero (born 1962 in Madrid ) is a Spanish virologist.

Guerrero works as a university professor of microbiology in the Department of Molecular Biology at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and is a scientist and Director of Culture and Science at the Center of Molecular Biology Severo Ochoa (Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa - CBMSO ). He is also active in various scientific programs of radio, press and television.

Training

After schooling in Hannover and at the IES Cervantes (Madrid ) López Guerrero studied Biochemistry at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid ( 1980-1985 ). For his doctoral thesis in the field of immune Virology at CBMSO 1990 he received a special award. Following graduation, he spent two research stays at the Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas (Madrid, CIB - CSIC, 1990-1993) and the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ, 1993-1996). After his return to the UAM, he worked as an assistant professor and was responsible for public relations in the context of scientific research. Since 2001 he is a tenured professor of Adam Mickiewicz University and since 2003 head of a small research field of neurobiology. 2003-2006 he founded the Department of Culture and Science of the Adam Mickiewicz University and since 2006 he has headed the same department of the CBMSO.

  • PhD (1986-1989 CBMSO Madrid.. ): Study on the susceptibility of immune cells during viral infection.
  • First postdoctoral fellow (1990-1993 CIB Madrid.. ): Analysis of rheumatoid arthritis in a mouse model.
  • Second Postdoc (1993-1996 DKFZ. ): Analysis of U937 promonocytic cell clones selected for their resistance to parvovirus H- 1 infection.
  • Since 1996 ( CBMSO UAM - CSIC): HSV -1 infection, and neurodegeneration.
