José Clayton

José Ribeiro Menezes Clayton ( born March 21, 1974 in São Luís, Brazil ) is a former Tunisian footballer of Brazilian origin.

The 1.84 m wide Clayton played at left-back since 1995 in Tunisia with ES Sahel and was naturalized in 1997. He then took the Tunisian national team at the World Cup in France in 1998 and later participated in the Football World Cup 2002 in Japan and South Korea.

He then attended the tournament at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, where the Tunisian national team was eliminated in the first round in third place in Group C behind the eventual winners Argentina and Australia. In the selection for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, he was, however, not appointed. Overall, Clayton denied until today (July 2006) 39 A- international matches for Tunisia.

At club level, Clayton also played between 1998 and 2001 with the French club SC Bastia ( 43 games - 1 goal) and then for Tunisian giants Espérance.
