José Ignacio Salafranca Sánchez-Neyra

José Ignacio Salafranca ( born May 31, 1955 in Madrid ) is a Spanish politician of the Partido Popular.

Salafranca studied law at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid and put the diploma in European integration studies at the Diplomatic School of Madrid and the National Institute of Public Administration from. He worked as a lecturer in Civil Law at the Centre for Higher Education Studies and European Communities at the Diplomatic School of Madrid as well as a lecturer in European Community studies at several European universities. At the European Commission, he was a civil servant and Deputy Director of the Cabinet of Commissioners Abel Matutes and Marcelino Oreja. In addition, he was legal counsel for the Agency for development of animal husbandry of the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the staff technical inspectors of Transport of the Ministry of Transport, Tourism and Communications, where he previously headed the Department for International Cooperation.

Since 1994 Salafranca belongs to the European Parliament. He was from 2001 to 2004 Deputy Chairman of the EPP Group, where he also belonged to the executive board and its spokesman in the Foreign Committee he was. For the European Parliament he held a number of other leading functions related primarily to non-European affairs. For example, he led the group to observe the countries of the Arab Spring and led several election observation missions. He was a representative of the European Parliament on numerous summits between the EU and Latin America or the Caribbean. He has received numerous prestigious awards of various Latin American countries.

In the EU Parliament period from 2009 to 2014 he is member of the board of his group, the European People's Party and Chairman of the Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly. He is a member in the Conference of Delegation Chairs and the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Delegation to the EU -Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee. As a deputy, he is in the Subcommittee on Security and Defence and the Delegation for relations with the United States.
