José Luis Mendilibar

José Luis Mendilibar ( born March 14, 1961 in Zaldibar ) is a former Spanish footballer and current coach. From February 2011 to September 2013 he was manager of CA Osasuna.

Playing career

As a player, José Luis Mendilibar has never played in the first Spanish league, but mainly in unterklassigen teams. Although the Basque once played in the second team from the Basque Tradition Club Athletic Bilbao, but never was able to prevail there. In 1994 finished Mendilibar with SD Lemona his career without having ever left the Basque Country as a player.

Coaching career

The beginnings

Immediately after his active playing career took Mendilibar his first club as a head coach. First, from 1994 to 1996 at Club Amateur Arratia. Over the next three years he coached various youth teams of his former clubs as a player Athletic Bilbao. Finally, from 1999 to 2001, he was allowed to take over the second team. After five years as an amateur and youth coach Mendilibar left Bilbao and took over with Aurrera Vitora again a club from the Spanish amateur football. However, it should be the beginning of a great career as a club coach.

In UD Lanzarote, he was able to convince the critics, so he went to SD Eibar 2004/ 05. With the Basques, he reached in his first and only season 4th in the Segunda División. Thus, it was conceivable narrowly missed the rise in the Spanish top flight.

Athletic Bilbao

In the summer of 2005, however, Mendilibar returned for the third time back to Bilbao for the first time as Erstligatrainer. His return, however, was not successful. Early with the worst start of Athletic Bilbao all time, the signs on leave, and so it should come after a few months. After 6 points from their first nine games Javier Clemente took office.

Real Valladolid

In the summer of 2006 Mendilibar signed for Real Valladolid. He led the club the same tradition in his debut season with a very young, occupied almost exclusively with Spanish team in the premier league back (at the end we had 88 points in the account ). There he led the club to a good place in the first half of the table after the first round. Mendilibar was released in February 2010 in Valladolid because of lack of success.

CA Osasuna

In February 2011 it was announced that competes Mendilibar the immediate successor of Antonio Camacho. Mendilibar signed in Osasuna a contract until June 2012.
