José Travassos

José António Barreto Travassos ( born February 22, 1922 in Lisbon, † 12 February 2002) was a Portuguese football player who was primarily in the service of Sporting Lisbon.

For Sporting, he formed the legendary attack formation, as ' Os Cinco Violinos ' (the five violins) was known. Also, he was appointed national team and played as the first Portuguese in 1955 in the FIFA team. On September 7, 1958, he ended his successful career. He played a total of 457 times for Sporting Lisbon and scored 172 goals.
