José Villa Soberón

José Ramón Villa Soberón ( born September 2, 1950 in Santiago de Cuba ) is a Cuban sculptor and art professor.

Life

1950 José Villa Soberón was born in Santiago de Cuba. He attended the Academy of Arts in Prague plastic, but then returned back to Cuba. Today he is a professor at the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana.

Work

Celebrity has become especially its copper statue of on a park bench in Havana seated John Lennon. The sculpture was unveiled on 8 December 2000 by Fidel Castro. Since 2001, stands in front of the Convento de San Francisco de Asís in Old Havana, a bronze statue of the Caballero de París, a city known, mentally disturbed man who went for years through the streets of the city. In 2003 he was an image of Ernest Hemingway in the bar El Floridita, also in Havana, in 2004 in Cienfuegos Beny Moré with another monument for a legend of the 20th century. His earlier works were mostly abstract.

Another famous work, the Cruz Andina at the airport of La Paz in Bolivia.
