Josef Bulva

Josef Bulva ( born January 9, 1943 in Brno, Czechoslovakia) is a Czech pianist.

Life

Josef Bulva was born in 1943 in the time German occupied Czechoslovakia, today the Czech Republic. His parents encouraged his musical talent early, and he attended from 1950, the School of Music in Napajedla, where his parents had been resettled. Due to the intensive promotion of educators Vaclav Lanka Bulva gained the virtuosity that earned him a reputation as a child prodigy. The age of 12 he played his first Liszt Etudes and Mozart piano concertos. At age 13, he played Brahms Paganini Variations demanding. Funded by a state grant of Czechoslovakia visited Bulva first the Conservatory Kroměříž, later the Conservatory Brno and finally the Conservatory in Bratislava, where he was received with 17 years in the former Academy of Arts. His training included Bulva with distinction and the so -called red diploma. Bulva was appointed at age 21 to State soloists of the CSSR.

The concert Bulvas 1971 abruptly interrupted by a serious accident in the mountains with over fifty fractures. After nearly a year of hospitalization, he performed again in 1972 and took his first trip abroad after the Prague Spring to emigrate to Luxembourg. Bulva was a citizen of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, but relocated to Munich. Since then, concerted Josef Bulva world.

In the former Czechoslovakia, he was accused of treason.

Bulva was hailed by the international scientific community. The music critic Joachim Kaiser called him " the pianist of the scientific age " and Steinway & Sons gave him the attribute " the pianist with the pianist ". Despite his success to Bulva increasingly withdrew in the following years from the concert.

On March 22, 1996, he crashed in a familial visit to his home on icy roads to the hidden under the snow shards of a beer bottle. However, his left hand was damaged supposedly irreparable. His career as a performer was thus considered terminated. Since then he has lived in Monaco. Professionally and financially committed to Bulva there as a stockbroker and investment banker.

Bulva underwent several operations in Switzerland and trained daily capable of moving his hand. After years of healing phase, the ability to play the hand was restored. 2009 Bulva returned after 13 years of absence in the concert halls back. In 2010 he was on tour. His recording activities will continue under the title " The Art of Josef Bulva " by Sony Classical.
