Josef Geitler von Armingen

Josef Karl Franz Otto Geitler, Knights of Armingen (* September 14, 1870 Smíchov in Prague, † June 20, 1923 in Graz ) was an Austrian physicist.

Josef Geitler studied in Bonn and Prague. In 1896 he was a lecturer at the Imperial Royal German University of Prague. In 1906 he took over as the successor of Alois Handl ( 1837-1915 ) the chair of experimental physics at the Imperial Franz Joseph University of Chernivtsi. His research was mainly devoted to the electromagnetic waves. Among his doctoral students, among others belonged Adalbert Rubinowicz. Following the acquisition of Czernowitz 1919 by Romanian authorities he moved to Graz, was appointed honorary lecturer at the Technical University Graz.

He was a cousin of Heinrich Hertz.
