Josef Reicha

Joseph Reicha ( Josef Rejcha ) (* February 12, 1752 in Chudenicz at Klattau in Bohemia; † March 5, 1795 in Bonn) was Bohemian cellist and composer. He was the uncle of Anton Reicha and its teachers.

Life

He was born in Chudenicz in Bohemia and received his education in Prague. In 1774 he stepped down as principal cellist in the court orchestra of Prince Ernst Krafft von Oettingen -Wallerstein, where he was Kapellmeister from 1780.

In 1781 he took on his nephew Anton Reicha and taught him self In 1785 he became director of the Electoral court orchestra of the Elector of Cologne Maximilian Franz of Austria. Together with his nephew Anton why he moved from Wallerstein to Bonn. Under his leadership, his nephew Anton Reicha and Ludwig van Beethoven played in the Electoral court orchestra. In 1789 he also took over the position as director of the new theater orchestra. Beginning of the 1790s he developed gout and died 1795 in Bonn.
