Josef Silný

Josef Silný ( born January 23, 1902 in Kroměříž, Austria - Hungary, † 15 May 1981) was a Czech football player. Silný played 50 matches for Czechoslovakia and in 1934 was runner-up.

Club career

Josef Silný played as a youth for Hanacka Slavia Kroměříž and moved at age 21 to Slavia Prague. There, the center-forward prevailed quickly and was able in 1925 winning the title in the inaugural season of the first League celebrate, to which he contributed eight goals. In the following season 1925/26, he scored 24 goals for the Red and Whites, and then moved to the biggest rivals Sparta Prague.

Also for Sparta shot Silný regular doors, 1930/31 he was top scorer with 18 of his team. In 1927, he had not only won with Sparta, the Czechoslovak championship, but also the Mitropa Cup. In the final, first leg, beat in the Sparta Prague SK Rapid Wien 6:2, SILY scored two goals in the return match, he scored in the 1-2 defeat consolation goal.

On October 17, 1932 in the derby against his former club Slavia, Silný broke through the first player to the 100 -goal mark in the top division. 13 more goals he should have to follow. In 1933 he moved to SC Nîmes, but returned in the summer of 1934 back again and played for FC Bohemians Prague henceforth, for which he still scored five league goals.

In the fall of 1935 Silný returned to his youth club Hanacka Slavia Kroměříž and worked there as a player-coach until 1940.

National

Josef Silný debuted on October 28, 1925 in the Czechoslovak national team, 7-0 win over Yugoslavia he scored the fifth goal. In the following nine years he belonged to the tribe of choice and played 50 international matches, the last in the second round of the World Cup 1934 against Romania. For his country Josef Silný scored 28 goals.
