Josef Zeman

Josef Zeman ( born January 23, 1915 in Drunče, Austria - Hungary; † 3 May 1999) was a Czechoslovakian football player and coach. With Czechoslovakia, he participated in the World Cup 1938 in France.

Club career

Zeman began playing football at SK České Budějovice. 1936 changed the striker to Pilsen SK, but the talent was not to last. After a few months Zeman was obliged Sparta Prague. With Sparta, the attacker was a two-time national champion. In the championship season 1937/38, he became the second top scorer in the league with 20 hits. After a lengthy knee injury Zeman left the capital and played in the 1943/44 season for the SK Pardubice, then briefly for the SK Nusle.

After the Second World War Zeman played one year for the first division Čechie Prague 's Karlin neighborhood before he returned in 1946 after České Budějovice and the team helped in the first Czechoslovak league. However, his four goals in the 1947/48 season was not enough to avoid relegation.

National

In the Czechoslovak national Zeman played four times and he scored two goals. Here he met on his debut on December 1, 1937 in the 4:5 defeat against England at White Hart Lane.

At the World Championships in 1938, he was part of the Czechoslovak squad. In the first round match against the Netherlands, which won the Czechoslovak Republic after extra time 3-0, Zeman in 110 minutes of play scored the second goal of the Czechoslovaks. It was also Zeman's last game wearing the jersey of the national team.

Coach

Zeman tried in the season 1949 Sokol JČE České Budějovice to bring as a coach again in the first league, but failed significantly. In the late 1950s he coached the third division Slavoj České Budějovice.
