Josep Sunyol

Josep Sunyol i Garriga ( born July 21, 1898 in Barcelona, † August 6, 1937 in the Sierra de Guadarrama ) was a Catalan lawyer and political activist, journalist and president of FC Barcelona.

He came from a wealthy Catalan family. Sunyol became president of the Catalan Football Federation in the season 1929 /30 and on 27 July 1935 he was elected president of FC Barcelona, ​​in the hope that he could solve the financial problems of the club and the club in the difficult times of repression by the military dictatorship based. In Sunyols first season the club won the Catalan Championship and reached the Spanish Cup final and finished the year with a positive balance.

Sunyol was not only athletic, but after the end of Primo de Rivera 's dictatorship and politically active in left-wing party " Esquerra Republicana ". He was also the founder and editor of the weekly sports magazine " La Rambla ", which was also left -oriented and the system under General Primo de Rivera criticized.

In 1936, during the Spanish Civil War, he was arrested by the troops of the dictator Francisco Franco in Sierra de Guadarrama and 1937 were executed.
