Joseph Adefarasin

Joseph Adetunji Adefarasin ( born April 24, 1920 in Ijebu -Ode, † 28 March 1989) was a Nigerian lawyer.

He attended the Igbobi College in Yaba, a suburb of Lagos, the St. Peter's Primary School in Lagos, and from 1932 to 1939. From 1946 to 1949 graduated in law at King's College in London and was admitted as a lawyer in January 1950. After working as a civil servant in various government institutions and legal authorities in Nigeria, he worked as a judge starting in April 1964. From the beginning of November 1974 until the end of April 1985, he served as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Nigerian state of Lagos, after he had held this office since 1970, representing.

In addition, he served from 1974 until his death as president of the national Red Cross society of his native country. From 1977 to 1981 he was the first and only African president of the League of Red Cross Societies, which is to say since 1983 International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and was followed in this office the Mexicans José Barroso Chavez. At the General Assembly of the Federation in November 1987 he was awarded for his work, the Henry Dunant Medal, the highest award of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
