Joseph Asajiro Satowaki

Joseph Cardinal Asajirō Satowaki (Japaneseヨゼフ 里脇 浅次郎, Yosefu Satowaki Asajirō, born 1 February 1904 in Sotome (now Nagasaki ), Japan, † August 8, 1996 in Nagasaki ) was Archbishop of Nagasaki.

Life

Joseph Asajirō Satowaki comes as his colleague Paul Yoshigoro Taguchi from the parish shitsu in the former Sotome (2005 amalgamated to Nagasaki ).

He studied in Nagasaki, Rome and Washington trays Catholic theology and philosophy. He received on 17 December 1932, the sacrament of Holy Orders, and then worked as a pastor and diocesan chancellor in Nagasaki. In the years 1947 to 1955, he took the lead duties as Vicar General, newspaper director and lecturer.

Pope Pius XII. appointed him in 1955 as Bishop of Kagoshima. Joseph Asajirō Satowaki participated in the years 1962-1965 at the Second Vatican Council. Pope Paul VI. conferred on him in 1968, the leadership of the Archdiocese of Nagasaki, Pope John Paul II took him on 30 June 1979 as a cardinal priest in the College of Cardinals to. He was assigned the titular church of Santa Maria della Pace. Joseph Cardinal Asajirō Satowaki died on 8 August 1996 in Nagasaki and was buried in the local cemetery Akagi.
