Joseph Brennan (basketball)

Joseph R. Brennan ( * November 15, 1900 in Brooklyn, New York, † May 10, 1989 in New York ) was an American professional basketball player who is counted as a professional for the best players in the early U.S. leagues of the sport in 17 years been. Brennan was 1919-1936 active as an athlete for at least six teams in four different leagues, partly simultaneously. He won several championship titles and awards as the best basketball player. 1975 Brennan was taken for his career performance in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Career

Joseph R. Brennan joined in 1919 directly from high school to a professional team. The team of the Brooklyn Visitations, he remained his career faithfully and played consistently until 1936. Using the Visitations, he won three league championships of the American Basketball League in 1929 and in 1931 and 1935. 's Metropolitan Basketball League, in the Visitation before 1927 competed, Brennan 1922 best basketball player of the season as the top performers of the team.

After retiring from active competition in 1936 Brennan joined as a coach to collegiate teams. As a player, he succeeded as a coach to end every season of his career with a positive balance of wins to losses. His most successful period as manager experienced Brennan from 1941-1948 at St. Francis College. In seven years, he led the team to an overall record of 96 wins in 46 defeats.

Others

A peak in Brennan's playing career was a victory for the Brooklyn Visitations against the Original Celtics in 1925. At that time, the Celtics were considered almost impregnable, Brennan recorded in the lot the decisive basket success to playing.

During his playing career Brennan was a sideline working as a banker. After his coaching career, he was director of a bank in Brooklyn.
