Joseph Hayes (author)
Joseph Hayes ( born August 2, 1918 in Indianapolis, Indiana, † September 11, 2006 in St. Augustine, Florida) was an American writer who became famous for his novels, plays and screenplays.
Life
At the age of 13 years, Hayes went to a convent of Benedictines, which he left after two years. He took his degree at Indiana University.
Hayes ' first Broadway play was 1949 Leaf and Bough. In 1954 he released his successful novel, The Desperate Hours, listed both as a play in New York City on Broadway which in 1955, when was filmed by Hollywood. His last play Calculated Risk, he wrote in 1962. During the same year, he co-wrote with his wife Marrijane the script for the Disney film of champagne in Paris ( Bon Voyage ).
Hayes died of Alzheimer's disease in a nursing home and was survived by three sons, ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
