Joseph Holbrooke
Joseph Charles Holbrooke ( born July 5, 1878 in Croydon, † August 5, 1958 in London) was an English composer, conductor and pianist.
His musical works include eight symphonies, many tone poems, two piano concertos, chamber music ( string quartets, a piano quintet, a quintet for clarinet and strings, and a piano quartet ). Many of his compositions are inspired by Edgar Allan Poe.
His son, Gwydion Brooke was a prominent English bassoonist.
To this composer, the trio to Derek Bailey, Gavin Bryars relates, and Tony Oxley, the 1963 to 1966 in Sheffield, England with freiimprovisierter experimented Music ( CD 1998 ). Derek Bailey describes him as " cockney Wagner ".
