Joseph-Philippe Guay

Joseph- Philippe ( Phillippe ) Guay PC ( born October 4, 1915 in Saint- Vital, Winnipeg, Manitoba; † 30 July 2001) was a Canadian entrepreneur, businessman and politician of the Liberal Party of Canada, the total of more than 22 years member of the the House of Commons and Member of the Senate and temporarily ministers.

Life

Guay worked after school as a businessman and entrepreneur and made five years military service in the Royal Canadian Navy. His political career began in local politics when he 1955-1956 Member of the town of Saint -Boniface, and later from 1960 to 1968 for four election time was mayor of Saint -Boniface.

In 1957 he was called by Pope Pius XII. taken as a knight in the Gregoriusorden.

He was subsequently elected in the general election on 25 June 1968 as the candidate of the Liberal Party for the first time to the MPs in the House of Commons and represented in this up to his mandate resignation on March 23, 1978 the constituency of St. Boniface.

In December 1972 he took his first government post and was until December 1973 Parliamentary Secretary of the Minister of Transport. Between January and May 1974 he was again Parliamentary Secretary at the Transport Minister and later from September 1974 to September 1975 Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Regional Economic Expansion.

In October 1975 Guay was Parliamentary Secretary of the Liberal Party and as such was until 1977 Chief Government Whip in the House of Commons, where he also between 3 November 1976 and April 20, 1977 Minister without Portfolio in the 20th government of Canada by Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. After 1977 he was Minister of State for Multiculturalism from 21 April to 15 September, he was most recently after 16 September 1977, the November 23, 1978 Minister of National income.

After retiring from the House Guay was on 23 March 1978, a proposal by Prime Minister Guay member of the Senate. This he belonged to until reaching the constitutional age limit of 75 years on October 4, 1990 and represented in the Senate this time the district of St. Boniface.

During this time he was also from 30 September 1986 to October 1, 1988 Co - Chairman of the Joint Standing Committee of the Parliament of Canada for the official languages.
