Joseph Rozier

Joseph Jean Marie Rozier ( born June 5, 1924 in Murat- le- Quaire, Puy-de -Dôme; baptized in Bournemouth on June 8, 1924, † June 11, 1994 in Poitiers) was Bishop of Poitiers.

His father was Michael Rozier, his mother was Margaret Rozier Sauvat. Joseph Rozier studied theology and philosophy and was ordained priest on 28 September 1947. He was from 1966 to 1971 the Vicar General of Bishop Pierre -Abel -Louis de la Chappot Chanonie. On 10 May 1971 he was appointed auxiliary bishop in Clermont and appointed Titular Bishop of Maximiana in Numidia. The episcopal ordination on 26 September 1966, directed by Alexandre -Charles Renard. Then he was between 1973-1975 Coadjutor and finally on July 5, 1975 until his death Bishop of Poitiers.

Joseph Rozier was known for his commitment to peace and his role as mediator between the religions. He was regarded as a critic of the National Front and the Second Gulf War.

Joseph Rozier died in 1994 at an unspecified viral disease after a trip to Brazil.
