Joseph Russell

Joseph Russell ( * 1800, † April 24, 1875 in Glens Falls, New York ) was an American politician. He represented 1845-1847 and 1851-1853 the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Joseph Russell was born in the early 19th century in New York and then lived in Warrensburg in Warren County. He received a limited education. Russell founded the Warrensburg 's Masonic Lodge. He went to timber stores, but also pursued other ventures, including the partnership at the Warren House Hotel. We chose him in the years 1830, 1835 and 1840, the Town Supervisor of Warrensburg. He was from November 1834 to November 1837 in Warren County Sheriff. In 1840 he sat in the New York State Assembly. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1844 for the 29th Congress, he was in the 15th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Lemuel Stetson on March 4, 1845. He retired after March 3, 1847 from the Congress. In 1850 he was a candidate for the 32nd Congress. After a successful election, he stepped on 3 March 1851, the successor of John R. Thurman. He retired after the March 3, 1853 out of the Congress.

He later moved to Glens Falls, where he founded the First National Bank of Glens Falls. He was also active in the Masonic Lodge Glens Falls. On March 24, 1875, he died in Glens Falls.
